Georgia Department of Corrections job fair

FORT GORDON, GA (WFXG) -

The Georgia Department of Corrections visited Fort Gordon on Thursday looking to hire veterans and former military personnel.

During the job fair, organizations across the state of Georgia spoke to potential employees and even hired some on the spot. They gave demonstrations on some of the tactical maneuvers used by the department of justice, corrections, and public safety. Offices for the DOC said they wanted to hire former military personnel before ether companies can get their hands on them.

"Hiring veterans and guardsman is the fact that we're prior military. And the transition for them is seamless. They're already mission driven and the fall right into our core values. Not only are we helping them out, but we're helping ourselves out also," said Phillip Lockett, training Lt. with the Department of Corrections.

If you're interested in applying for a job with the DOC, visit their jobs website at gdcjobs.com.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
