SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Some people got away with stolen money after a Subway sandwich shop was robbed Tuesday night at gunpoint.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. at the Subway on Ga. 204 near Interstate 95.

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police say the robber got away with a bag of cash but was arrested after an officer pulled up behind the reported getaway car on Ga. 204 near the on-ramp to U.S. 17.

Police say that is where the robber threw the bag of bills out of the window. The cash blew all across U.S. 17 and some people passing by were able to snatch up handfuls of cash.

Police arrested the suspect and rounded up the remaining cash and returned it to Subway.

The suspect's name has not yet been released.

Police are asking anyone that grabbed the cash to please take it to the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department Headquarters at 201 Habersham Street in downtown Savannah. Officials say those who return the stolen cash will not face punishment and will remain anonymous.
