NASHVILLE, GA (WALB) -

The controversy surrounding the former Berrien County Middle School baseball coach was the hot topic at the county's school board meeting Tuesday night.

Jordan Stokes recently stepped down as coach after some of the players' parents learned that Stokes had allegedly physically and verbally mistreated the kids during practices.

Stokes was not at the meeting, but his father addressed the school board on his behalf after the parents had an opportunity to speak.

"This man has abused our children on many levels," said Gary Williams a parent of one of the players on the baseball team, speaking on behalf of the group of parents. "He has cursed them, humiliated them, put their health and safety at risk by extreme measures of physical, verbal and mental abuse."

Jordan Stokes' father, Jerry Stokes, read a note to the school board members from Jordan. In the note, Jordan said his stepping down as coach was the right action and he expressed his thanks to the people who continue to pray for him. After reading the note, Jerry Stokes addressed the parents.

"As Jordan's father, there's no proof that a lot of stuff that you're saying went on," Jerry Stokes said.

Jordan Stokes is currently the middle school's P. E. teacher, but the parents want him to be fired.
