Two recent fundraisers brought in more than $63,000 for a Valley jockey paralyzed last month.

Jockey Anne Von Rosen, 42, was paralyzed below the waist on March 11 at Turk Paradise when the horse she was riding fell on the backstretch following the race, somersaulting, and then pinning the rider underneath.

Von Rosen piloted a 5-year-old mare, "Ponchita Bonita," to a second place finish. As the horses were being pulled back, or slowed down, that's when the accident happened.

Rodolfo Arvizu was riding behind Von Rosen, saw the accident and rushed in to release her foot which was caught in the stirrup. He received "The Arizona Horsemen's Benevolent & Protective Association Humanitarian Award."

Von Rosen was immediately rushed to the hospital and has had several surgeries for a crushed vertebrae and a broken neck, and she is currently receiving physical therapy in her native Germany.

A special fund has been set up to help pay Von Rosen's medical expenses.

A "Walk for Annie" fundraiser was held on Fan Appreciation Day on April 12 and raised more than $2,200.

On April 16, there was a silent and live horsemen's auction, along with a bake sale and dinner at the Turf Paradise Park Pavilion Tent on the track apron, following the races. The event, which more than 400 people attended, raised more than $61,000, including $10,000 from Turf Paradise owner Jerry Simms.

Anyone who would like to donate to Von Rosen can send a check made out to Turf Paradise Foundation and mark the memo line Anne Von Rosen. All donations are tax deductible.

The address is:

Turf Paradise
1501 West Bell Road
Phoenix, AZ 85023

Von Rosen is currently ranked third in the jockey standings at Turf Paradise.
