SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah's City Hall will be lit up green for the Saint Patrick's Day festivities.

City leaders and Saint Patrick's Parade Committee officials held an official welcoming event for our Irish guests this evening. The Irish Minister of Transport, Tourism, and Sport, and the Consul General of Ireland, joined Mayor Edna Jackson, and members of City Council, as they celebrated Savannah's participation in Ireland's Global Greening Initiative.

Savannah's City Hall joins more than 70 iconic sites from across the world that will be lit in green to mark St. Patrick's Day.

"I am really particularly delighted to be here, and to personally witness Savannah's City Hall turning green, and being one of those international landmarks that has gone green tonight in a city that has such strong Irish heritage and Irish cultural links," said Leo Varadkar, Irish Minister for Transport, Tourism, and Sport.

Tourism Ireland has been pushing the Global Greening Initiative as a way to unite people across the world who feel a connection with the Island of Ireland.
