Severe weather affects multiple areas across Alabama

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Severe weather spread across much of the southern part ofAlabama on Sunday. Four counties, Wilcox, Covington, Dale and Coffee,experienced tornado warnings, but according to reports resulted in little damage.

The most damage that has so far been reported was adepartment store in Atmore that was knocked down during the severe weather.

Rain levels from Montgomery measured from 1.48"to 1.92", Prattville received 2.10" of rain and Troy registered 1.45" of rain. Tallasseeregistered 1.75" of rain, Alex City had 1.25" of rain and down in South Alabama,where a lot of the severe weather happened, Andalusia received 1.38" of rain.

A group of campers experienced the force of the storm system when they became trapped in the Pine Creek near Cooter's Pond in Autauga County. The campers were safely rescued by members of the Autauga County Rescue Squad, but their vehicles remained stuck in the river.

Multiple power outages were reported across Alabamaincluding 1,000 residents in Prattville, more than 300 in Selma and 79 inCoffee County. Alabama Power had crews on the scene to get the power back up as quickly as possible in the Prattville and Selma area. We have not receive a report from Pea River Electric Cooperative on if power has been restored in Coffee County.

The Dale County EMA department stated that the only damagereceived was one downed power line and a few downed branches. Other places thatencountered downed trees were Straughn, Opp, and Sanford.
