USC Aiken to dedicate new fountain

AIKEN, SC (WFXG) -

The University of South Carolina Aiken will hold a reception to celebrate the unveiling of the new USC Aiken Fountain in the Nat Stetson Circle.

The reception will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in front of the USC Aiken Penland Administration Building on 471 University Parkway.

The fountain was made possible by Coach and Patty Abshire.

"I've always been interested in horses," Coach Abshire said. "My family has raised and raced Pacers and Trotters with one being a world champion. We love the Aiken community and are so proud of the University. We are happy that the equestrian statue will be a beautiful gateway to USC Aiken campus."

The fountain will be part of the Nat Stetson Circle, which will include landscaping and lighting to highlight this campus entrance. Nat Stetson was a longtime member of the Aiken County Commission for Higher Education.

"We are always interested in making our campus more beautiful. The exquisite bronze equestrian statue in the center of the fountain is a wonderful representation of not only USC Aiken but the Aiken community," states Dr. Sandra Jordan, chancellor. "We are proud for this to be the new centerpiece for our university."
