WALKER COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Rumors that a Walker County high school may close has a community fighting back.

The group has started an online petition to save the high school. For years there have been rumors the school would be closed, but this time community members feel it's more than just a rumor. Residents are concerned about what losing the school could do to the community.

"I think it will be a blow not only to the school but the community as a whole. It would destroy all the local business and the family environment we have around here," Andrew Wright, who is a 2005 graduate, said.

"I think it will be a big loss. The kids they love their school. They don't want to go to another community because they're here. Parrish is Parrish," Kathy McGill said.

Our calls to the high school principal and Dr. Jason Adkins, the Superintendent of Walker County have not been returned.
