TUSKEGEE, AL (WSFA) -

The U.S. Forest Service is alerting the public to a planned burn set for Friday in the Tuskegee National Forest. People who see smoke should know that this is a controlled burn and not a wildfire.

The plan includes burning approximately 1500 acres on Forest Service roads 900, 901, 902, 903, 913, 930, 948, Hwy 29 and Hwy 186.

During the burn, officials say the public will notice Forest Service fire crews and equipment and may see smoke may from Highway 29, Highway 186 and Interstate 85.

Authorities ask anyone who encounters smoke on the roadways to slow down, turn on low-beam headlights and use caution.

Officials say they expect the wind to be out of the south and carry the smoke to the north towards the interior of the forest around Exit 42 on I-85 and the Choctafaula Creek bottom. As the temperatures cool later in the day, the smoke may begin to settle down in Choctafaula Creek Bottom along highway 186.

Some settling may also occur around the general area of the burn.
