ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The 2014 Wing Fest is hitting Albany Saturday, the event that helps raise funds for the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia.

Visitors will get treated to a variety of entertainment including 5 full performances from live bands, rock-climbing and bouncy houses for kids and of course vendor cook-offs and wing eating competitions.

Event director, Rick Schneider says he feels the reason why people like coming out to the festival is to spend time with family and to see who can eat the most wings, the record is 22 wings in 2 minutes and the champion is said to be back again this year. Schneider says there is something for everyone and loves to bring families together.

But the main purpose of wing fest is to bring community attention to cancer. March is Colorectal awareness month they will exhibit a giant inflatable colon, standing at 10 feet high and 20 feet long, it will display what a normal colon should look like and what a colon looks like when it' affected by cancer.

"I lost my mother 6 years ago to cancer and that's why one of the reasons we do the festival so it's just making people aware," Schneider said. "And it's nice because all of our dollars stay here right here in Southwest Georgia, they don't go to other parts around the country. That's why the Cancer Coalition is so important to us."

Last year wing fest was able to raise just under $2,200 and Saturday they hope to double that and raise at around $5,000.

Wing Fest will begin at 11am at Exchange Club Fairgrounds in Albany, tickets are $5. Free admission for anyone with a valid military ID and children under the age of 8.
