Information from South Georgia Technical College-

The South Georgia Technical College Jets and Lady Jets basketball teams both captured their respective NJCAA Region XVII tournament titles and have qualified to participate in the NJCAA Division I National Basketball Tournaments in Hutchinson and Salina, Kansas, March 17th – 22nd.  

The games will be broadcast in Americus on WISK-FM 98.7 or WDEC-FM 94.7.      

The Jets received the 4th place seed in the nation and the Lady Jets were ranked 8th in the women's brackets.  As one of the top eight seeds in their respective tournaments, the Jets and Lady Jets both received opening round byes in the NJCAA National Tournaments.       

The Lady Jets will play their first game on Tuesday, March 18th at 4:30 p.m. central time.  The game will be broadcast on WISK-FM 98.7 beginning at 5:30 p.m. eastern time.  Immediately following the Lady Jets game in Salina, Kansas, the radio station will pick up with the Jets action from Hutchinson, Kansas.  That game begins at 6:30 p.m. central time or 7:30 p.m. eastern time.      

All games will also be broadcast live over the internet on the NJCAA TV.  That website address is www.njcaatv.com .       

The Lady Jets will take on the winner of the Northwest Florida State – Denmark Tech game.  Those two teams are scheduled to play on Monday at 12 noon in Salina, Kansas.  South Georgia Technical College defeated Denmark Tech 83 – 68 in the NJCAA District J tournament to earn the number eight seed in the National Tournament.  Denmark Tech was a zone qualifier for the national tournament with a 17 – 2 overall record.      

Northwest Florida State is 24 – 6 this season and ranked 9th.  They ranked as high as seventh in the NJCAA regular season polls but lost to Chipola in their end of the season regional tournament.  Three of their four losses this season was to Chipola, which is ranked second in the NJCAA National Tournament with a 31 – 1 overall record.  Northwest Florida State received one of the four at-large bids to the National Tournament.      

The winner of the Lady Jets game on Tuesday will advance to the Elite Eight or quarterfinals.  That game will be played at 1 p.m. central time on Thursday, March 20th.  They will match-up with the winner of the Trinity Valley and the State Fair and West Nebraska games.  Trinity Valley from Texas is the top seed in the tournament with a 32 – 1 record.  They are the defending NJCAA National champions.  West Nebraska is seeded 17th.      

The Jets will play on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. central time against the winner of Harcum and Walters State.  Harcum is seeded in 13th place.  The Pennsylvania team is 27 – 6 overall.  They received an at-large bid to the national tournament.  They were ranked fourth in the end of the regular season national polls but lost in their regional tournament.  Walters State from Tennessee is seeded 20th with a 20 – 13 overall record.  They were not ranked nationally at the end of the season.  They were the Region XXII champions.       

The winner of that game will also advance to the quarter-final or elite eight round.  They will play on Thursday, March 20th at 2 p.m. central time.  They will take on the winner of the fifth seeded Northeastern team and the Trinity Valley-Pratt game.  Northeastern is from Colorado and 31 – 3.  Trinity Valley of Texas is seeded 12th with a 27 – 6 record and Pratt of Kansas is ranked 21st with a 22 – 12 record.      

Jets fans from outside the Americus area can still listen to the live broadcast by logging on to the www.americusradio.com website and clicking on the Jets logo.
