The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District will temporarily close Morrah's boat ramp, located on Bobby Brown State Park Road in Elberton, Ga., from March 24 to approximately July 31.
As an alternative, displaced boaters and anglers can use the boat ramp at Bobby Brown State Park, located at the end of Bobby Brown State Park Road approximately three miles from Morrah's Ramp. This ramp is operated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and is open from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily. The boat ramp fee is $5.
Boaters may also use the Calhoun Falls ramp, located approximately three miles south of Calhoun Falls, S.C. This ramp is located at the end of Russell Dam Overlook Road off Highway 81. Additional alternatives for boaters are the Mt. Pleasant ramp and Mt. Carmel day-use ramp, also accessible off Highway 81 in Mt. Carmel, S.C. All of these ramps are operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and are open year-round, 24-hours a day.
The temporary closure of the Morrah's boat ramp is required to ensure public safety while contractors repair a rock jetty near the Russell Dam. The boat ramp area will be used as an access point for contractor staff and equipment during the repair work. Following construction, the Corps of Engineers will repair the entrance roadway and parking area.
