GA congressional candidate Eugene Yu returns $50K in prohibited campaign funds

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A Georgia congressional candidate had to refund $50,000 in prohibited campaign contributions, according to the Associated Press.

Eugene Yu of Evans told the Associated Press his campaign made a "rookie mistake" when it accepted $54,500 in contributions linked to a single Augusta donor. That amount far exceeds the limit that a single donor can legally give to a candidate seeking federal office.

The donations were for Yu's campaign for Georgia's U.S. Senate seat and were from Wayne B. Brown and his company, WayneWorks, according to documents from the Federal Election Commission.

Yu dropped out of that race in February and entered the race for Georgia's 12th Congressional seat currently held by Rep. John Barrow.
