MILLBROOK, AL (WSFA) -

Millbrook police say a student at Stanhope Elmore High School was arrested Monday in connection to threats made to administrators at the school.

The school was temporarily placed on lockdown Monday until the student was detained and the area was deemed safe.

James Dalton Pannell, 18, of Coosada, has been charged with making a terroristic threat.

Police say they were initially concerned that an explosive device could be present on the school's campus because of statements Pannell made. A Montgomery Police Department K-9 unit swept the area and didn't find any explosive materials.

Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson says Pannell had been subject to disciplinary action from the school and "at some point he made some very threatening statements via social media."

"It's a shame all this had to occur because a young man could not control his temper and made some very poor decisions. What young people everywhere need to understand is that it matters not what your intent is,"  Johnson said. "When you make threatening statements of the nature this young man did this morning; law enforcement, school officials and others have no choice but to treat those threats as credible."
