Wildfire burns 100 plus acres in Union Springs

UNION SPRINGS, AL (WSFA) -

Officials are in Bullock County investigating a wildfire that burned across 100-plus acres in Union Springs Sunday.

The blaze started around 4:30 p.m. on Bullock County Road 31 near Walker Lane.

Investigators tell WSFA 12 News it took firefighters seven hours to contain the fire, finally bringing it under control around 11 p.m.

The Alabama Forestry Commission had three dozers on the scene and six wildland firefighters from Pike, Bullock,Houston, Crenshaw, and Butler counties. The Union Springs Volunteer Fire Department also assisted.

Two homes were in danger, but fire officials were able to protect them both. No structures were damaged and there are no reports of any injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

The AFC says since the beginning of the year, its crews have responded to 481 wildfires that have burned more than 10,000 acres of land.

No other information is known at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
