Election qualifying opens

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - The doors opened at 9 a.m. Monday in Augusta for candidates for mayor, commission seats, Richmond County school board and two state court judgeships.

John Stone is running for Georgia's 12th Congressional District and says he's ready to see a change in Washington.

"It's time we had some new ideas and some new people in Washington. The status quo ain't working, it needs to go and that's the commitment I've made," he says.

Changes made by the legislature put the mayor, commission and judge candidates on the May 20 general election ballot.

The school board candidates won't be on the ballot until November.
