Augusta to host US Rowing Masters National Championship

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

Augusta will host the US Rowing Masters National Head Race Championship this fall.

The race will take place on the Savannah River and will span 5,000 meters.

The event is being held along with the Head of the South Regatta the day before.

Augusta Rowing Club director George Fry Jr. says he's excited to host this event because it's been 20 years since Augusta hosted a championship rowing event.

"It's the 30th anniversary of the founding of the modern day Augusta Rowing Club. 1984 was when....November of 1984 was when we got our charter. There was rowing here 170 years ago kind of after the Civil War fell apart. It's just nice to see an event coming here and we're hoping that we'll have a lot more involvement," he says.

The race will be held Sunday, November 9th.
