Phoenix is one of eight finalists for the Republican National Convention in 2016, according to a list released by the Republican National Committee on Thursday morning.
Phoenix will compete with Dallas, Denver, Kansas City, MO, Las Vegas and three cities in Ohio - Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus.
The list of the bidding cities was announced in a Tweet by RNC Chairman Reince Priebus.
The RNC said the eight cities will go to Washington, DC to present their bids to the RNC site-selection committee on March 3.
In mid-March, the committee will reveal which cities will receive on-site visits in the late spring.
The finalists will be selected after the visits, and in late summer or early fall, the convention city will be voted on by the full RNC.
