AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Goodwill said donations are running low, and the culprit may come as a surprise to you.
Representatives from Goodwill of Middle Georgia and the CSRA said their processing rooms are very empty, and they think it's because of the recent winter storms that have affect the area.
They aren't just low on clothes. Toys, homeware and furniture are all need.
"I think it's a fairly localized trend and a lot of it is because the bad weather," said Barry Paschal, the senior director of marketing and communications for Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia and the CSRA.
"We had a significant downturn in donations after that first winter storm, and the second one really hit us hard," he said. "For example, it shut down our entire Augusta campus here almost three days because we were without power."
Goodwill said it has stayed committed to putting 82 cents of every dollar back into the company, and much of that has gone toward training people at the Helms College and Helms Career Institute.
Goodwill will also have a fundraiser to raise money this week.
