GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The woman who survived a gunshot to the head was in court for the accused gunman's bond hearing Thursday following a fatal shooting along Pelham Road Saturday - and forgave him for what happened.

Greenville County deputies arrested Billy Taylor, 23, in connection with the early Saturday morning shooting on Thursday.

Taylor appeared before a judge on some of his charges and the victim deputies say he shot was there and addressed him directly.

"I'm not mad at you," Ashley Hiott said. "I'm just wondering why you would do this to me and my children... I had to watch my 3-year-old feed me. I forgive you and am not mad, just want to know why you did this."

FOX Carolina's Ashley Daley was in court and said Taylor apologized in response.

Hiott was riding in a SUV along with Rodney Nesbitt, 29, when deputies said they were shot along Pelham Road between the Bi-Lo and Earth Fare shopping centers just after 3:30 a.m.

Hiott said they had stopped for gas after leaving Croc's nightclub and left the gas station when they saw an altercation inside, but as they drove away, someone fired shots at their car. Nesbitt died at the scene and Hiott was rushed to the hospital. She said the bullet entered the right side of her head and is lodged behind her left eye, causing her to lose sight in one eye.

In court Thursday, Hiott said she did not know Taylor and had never seen him before. At one point during Taylor's bond hearing, the two spoke to each other.

Deputies said Taylor was charged with attempted murder, murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and discharging a firearm into a vehicle.

Taylor appeared in court on the attempted murder and firearm charge Thursday where he was denied bond.

He returned to court Thursday night on the murder charge where he was once again denied bond. Nesbitt's family was present for that hearing and wanted to know why their son was shot.

"I just want to know what happened, and why it happened," said Kenneth Fields, Nesbitt's father. "And if they answer that, I'll be satisfied."

Nesbitt's family did not get that answer but know Taylor will be held without bond until at least his next court appearance, which has not yet been determined.

Deputies say the investigation is ongoing and ask anyone with more information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 864-23-CRIME.
