SURPRISE, AZ (CBS5) -
Paradise Honors High School in Surprise was placed under lockdown for nearly an hour after a report of a student bringing an airsoft gun to school in his backpack.
The gun was never shown at the school, but the student's girlfriend knew the gun was in the pack and told her teacher, who then told a person at the school's front desk, said a spokesman with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
The spokesman said no crime was committed since the teen never pulled the gun out of the backpack, never brandished it, and never pointed it at or near anyone.
The spokesman also said an airsoft gun does not qualify as a real weapon.
Airsoft guns can fire plastic pellets, and used either compressed gas or electric or spring-driven pistons.
News helicopter footage showed several units from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office at Paradise Honors High School.
The lockdown ended about noon.
