A couple was found dead Wednesday afternoon in Apache Junction in an apparent murder-suicide, police said.
Brett "Kelly" Armstrong, 55, and Laurel "Laurie" Armstrong, 47, both of Apache Junction, were found dead about 1 p.m. Tuesday inside a home in the 3100 block of West Foothill Street, according to Apache Junction Police Department spokesperson Constance Halonen.
Halonen said the initial investigation indicates that Kelly Armstrong took Laurie Armstrong's life before taking his own life.
Laurie Armstrong was the executive director for the Apache Junction branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley.
"Laurie's strong community involvement has touched many lives. Our thoughts and compassion goes out to the surviving families," Halonen said.
Authorities say the couple had been married for more than 20 years.
Pinal County Superior Court records show Laurie Armstrong filed a divorce petition last November. The status of the case was unclear Wednesday.
