(WMC-TV) - A crash involving at least two vehicles threw bodies all over the front yard of a Whitehaven home on Berta Road at Shelby Drive Tuesday.

First responders called the scene "chaotic." Twelve people were packed into a SUV that rolled over multiple times. At least 11 people were taken to the hospital after the crash; three of the victims were adults, while the rest were children.

Le Bonheur Children's Hospital says they tended to eight children ranging from ages 8 months to 11 years old.

Neighbors say they saw children fly out of the SUV, some even hitting the house's wall. According to authorities there were several child car seats on the scene, but it is unclear if they were utilized.

Police say the SUV and a truck sideswiped each other. Witnesses say a yelling match erupted after the crash.

"It was awful. I have never seen in my life anything like this. I feel sorry for the kids for the family," said witness Kenneth Lee.

Kathleen Cole watched the news as the story developed around 5 p.m. Chopper 5 captured the horrific scene with images of tire tracks, victims lying on the ground, and others being loaded into ambulances on stretchers.

"I was saying, Lord, please let the children be OK," she said. "My daughter ... she was hysterical, and I could hardly understand what she was saying ... Only thing I could understand was that the baby was in the car. So I threw everything down and ran out."

Her great-grandson, 8-month-old Keenon Hoskins, was the youngest injured in the crash. He was thrown from the SUV.

Family member Marilyn Cox said as of late Tuesday he is now at Le Bonheur laughing and talking.

"He's scratched up, and they did some scans on his head. He OK," said Cox.

Considering the traumatic crash, they are amazed their precious 8-month- old survived.

"My daughter went over to The MED and talked to the mother of Keenon, and they were getting ready to take her to X-ray," said Cole.

Conditions were not available Tuesday night regarding the other children or adults who were injured.

Investigators are still looking into who was at fault for the crash. Police say the man driving the pickup truck was not injured.
