The slushy mess on the roads Thursday froze overnight, creating icy conditions on some roads Friday morning. But the main challenge for crews now is cleaning up downed trees and power lines.

The S.C. Department of Transportation said in their 8 a.m. update Friday that they have transitioned their operations from deicing to debris removal.

"Fallen trees are a significant problem in many counties. Most counties continue to report snow and ice on secondary roads and bridges with the exception of coastal areas," the report says.

The Georgia Department of Transportation also is warning motorists to be careful on the roadways due to the downed trees and power lines. GDOT also reported some icy conditions in Richmond County on I-520 westbound Friday morning and on Washington Road north of Milledge Road.

In Columbia County, Industrial Park Drive at the railroad tracks is closed, as well as Hardy McManus at Halali Farm Road, said EMA Director Pam Tucker.

Trees are down on these Columbia County roads:
  • Mill Creek Ln
  • Lampkin WoodsTubman Road
  • Saddletree Lane
  • Clanton Road
  • Biggs Road
  • Millwood Drive
  • Rock Branch
  • Shawnee Drive
  • Buckboard @ Woodland
  • Swan Court
  • Seven Creek Evans to Locks (Near 5242)
  • Highway 28 @ Mill Stone Drive
  • Ray Owens Road
  • Ridge Road
  • Reynolds Farm Road
  • Lakeview Drive (Grovetown)
