Shelters open around the CSRA after winter storm


Counties around the CSRA are operating emergency shelters for the thousands of people who are without power after the winter storm. 

If you need a warm place to stay, here's a list of shelters:

Richmond County

  • Richmond County Department of Family and Children Services and American Red Cross are operating a shelter at 2950 Mike Padgett Highway.
  • The Salvation Army's Center of Hope, located at 1384 Greene St., is offering shelter to homeless individuals and people seeking shelter from the cold.

Columbia County
  • Patriots Park, located at 5445 Columbia Road in Grovetown, is accommodating people who need a warm place to stay overnight.

Aiken County
  • Salvation Army Community Church, located at 322 Gayle Ave., is operating as an overnight shelter. Cots will be provided.
  • The Smith-Hazel Community Center, located at 440 Kershaw St. NE, is open as warming station until power is restored to the community. (This is not an overnight shelter.) Call 803-642-7634 for more information.

Burke County
  • The National Guard Armory on South Liberty Street across from Bi-Lo is serving as an overnight shelter. 
  • Waynesboro City Hall on Myrick Street is also serving as an emergency overnight shelter. 

Jefferson County
  • Jefferson County High School, located at 1157 Warrior Trail between Louisville and Wrens, is operating as an emergency overnight shelter.
