LOWNDES CO., AL (WSFA) -
The Alabama Department of Transportation says multiple vehicle accidents along Interstate 65 in Lowndes County temporarily forced the closure of a section of the interstate Wednesday.
The closure lasted for several hours Wednesday. Traffic was being redirected to U.S. Highway 31 North.
Alabama State Troopers say there were two, single-vehicle crashes. One involved a box-type truck that crashed and involves major debris clean up.
A second crash happened less than a mile from the first between mile markers 153 and 155 and involved a tractor trailer truck. That commercial vehicle ran off the road forcing the need for officials to shutdown the interstate throughout the day for cleanup.
Troopers say a third crash, involving two vehicles, also occurred with a single injury but no additional details are currently available regarding that case.
