School resumes in Edon after no threat found

EDON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Students in the Edon Northwest Local School district were let out of school early Wednesday because of a threat written on a wall, according to police.

Edon Police Chief Tom Szmczak says school staff were told by a student that there was a threat written on a bathroom wall in the school. School officials and police found the threat, which said a device was going to explode. Officials then decided on an early dismissal.

The police chief says an alert was sent to parents saying kids would be bussed to the community center.

Edon's superintendent says two Toledo Police K-9 teams spent about two and a half hours searching the school Thursday evening before determining the school was safe. No explosives or other dangerous items were found.

The superintendent says the written threat was found in a first floor men's bathroom, which is accessible to all students and members of the public who use the building. Edon police and the school system are investigating.

The K-12 campus has less than 1,000 students. A similar threat happened back in 2009.
