The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a winter storm warning for much of the CSRA from 7 p.m. Tuesday through noon Thursday.
The warning is for Columbia, Richmond, Burke, McDuffie, Aiken and Barnwell counties. A winter storm watch will be in effect for the rest of the CSRA from Tuesday evening through Thursday morning.
The CSRA will see mostly freezing rain and ice, according to the NWS. Dangerous accumulations of 1/4 to 3/4 of an inch of ice are possible.
The freezing rain will most likely start late Tuesday night, said Pam Tucker, EMA director for Columbia County. Temperatures are not expected to warm up Wednesday, and freezing rain will continue throughout the day.
There is a chance of a small amount of snow Thursday morning, Tucker said. As temperatures warm up, the precipitation will return to rain.
