Augusta remembers The Beatles

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

It's the day that changed music forever.

Fifty years ago today The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. This was the first appearance in America for the band, and for many people it was their first time seeing The Beatles perform.

Victoria Cooper says she was just a little girl when Beatlemania hit the United States, but she remembers the iconic performance.

"Oh we were all in front of the TV, very excited and they came out and we were just amazed at how many people were there watching," she says.

Over 73 million people watched the Ed Sullivan Show that night to see the band perform.
