Deputies seek burglars who crashed cars into stores to steal ATMs

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

Goshen Grocery could be the fourth hit for suspects wanted in a string of smash and grab robberies.

Between January 26th and January 30th, stolen trucks plowed into outside walls of a Manna Mart, a CITGO station and a Rack and Grill restaurant.

Richmond County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Michael McDaniel said. "We do have reason to believe that all four cases are related. We're seeing a pattern. A ford pickup truck is being stolen and being used to force its way into businesses."

Deputies said, this time, the truck was a 1993 Ford F350, stolen sometime Wednesday or Thursday.

Goshen Grocery owners weren't ready to talk with us on camera, but they let us inside to see the damage. Their ATM was tampered with. Suspects in the Manna Mart smash and grab got away with one.

Sgt. McDaniel said, "All the debris from the wall and cement fell on the ATM, which meant they were not able to steal it.

Sgt. McDaniel said, they're looking for 2-3 suspects and warns business owners need to stay alert until they're in custody.

"The Sheriff's Office would like to suggest that if a business owner has surveillance equipment, make sure it's on and make sure it's working."

Anyone with information about the burglaries can contact the Richmond County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigative Division at 706-821-1020. Callers may remain anonymous.
