Aiken man accused of attempted robbery

One Aiken County man is behind bars after officers say he tried to rob someone in a hotel last month.

"Essentially it went out as a person pointing a firearm and it ends up that two individuals were involved in a struggle," said Lt. Karl Odenthal, with the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Police said one of the people in that struggle was 22-year-old Antoine Williams. A victim told ADPS that Williams approached him wearing a mask with a gun.

"A firearm was discharged and when we investigated it further it was an attempted robbery," said Odenthal.

In an incident report, the victim said, although he hadn't been shot, he fell to the ground acting as if he had been to repel the shooter.

"No one was injured in the whole incident," Odenthal said. "We did recovered the spend round. The suspect, Mr. Williams, fled the scene and we ended up later arresting him. We just arrested him."

Williams is facing multiple charges including attempted robbery and attempted murder.
