2 injured after weekend shooting in Millen

MILLEN, GA (WFXG) - The Millen Police Department has confirmed two people were injured during a shooting early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to the 900 block of Buckhead Road around 1:26 a.m. after a resident awoke to a knock at the window.

Upon investigating, officers said the resident discovered Malcom Jerome Steele, 30, suffering from a gunshot wound. Steele was transported to Jenkins County Hospital.

According to authorities, officers canvassed the neighborhood and found a second victim, Hurman Lamech Hamilton, 41, on the 500 block of Martin Luther King Blvd suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Jenkins County Hospital, also.

Officers said both men were later transferred to Georgia Regents Medical Center.

A person of interest has been taken into custody, police said.

The case remains under investigation.
