KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A woman has died after being unable to escape from a fire at a Kansas City home.

The fire started about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 7200 block of Park Avenue.

Family members say Shirley President died in the fire.  She lived in the home for the last eight years.

"She was sweet and lovable. She kept all the family together.  There were 10 of us," President's sister, Pauline, said.

Several family members were at the scene Sunday morning.  They didn't get many answers about what happened from homicide detectives or bomb and arson investigators.  Pauline wonders if this was an accident or arson.

"I think something happened wrong. She don't deserve this. Not like this," she said.

Firefighters say the fire started in the living room of the home. That was where rescue crews found President's body.  The fire burned so hot it melted siding off of the neighboring house.

"I feel hurt.  I'm going to miss her. She was sweet, an angel," Pauline said.

Firefighters estimate about $15,000 in damage to the home.  Investigators are still working to figure out what caused the fire.
