SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A substitute teacher has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged battery on a high school student.

Shreveport police say investigators were contacted Friday afternoon regarding allegations a substitute teacher working at Huntington High school committed a battery on a student.  The alleged battery was reported by school officials to a Shreveport police officer assigned as the school's School Resource Officer.

Police say the allegations suggest the 15-year-old female student was battered by the teacher on Thursday during a class session.  The student was not injured during the ordeal and did not require any medical attention.

Investigators from Shreveport Police Department's Juvenile Division launched an investigation into the accusations.  Investigators interviewed the substitute teacher, identified as 63-year-old Lola Cawthorne of Shreveport.

After those interviews, Cawthorne was booked into the Shreveport City Jail, charged with simple battery.
