From cold & snow to warmth & sunshine

Posted: Updated:

Mother Nature is at it again, bringing us days worth of colder-than-average temperatures and some southern snowfall, and now aiming to bring us above average temperatures by Superbowl Sunday!

In the wake of the snowy system, we are still dealing with icy conditions on less-traveled roadways.  Main interstates and well-traveled roads have done well to dry up, but since there is still a chance for slick spots while we stay in the 20s and low 30s for the remainder of the morning, we have a Winter Weather Advisory in place for our entire viewing area until noon today.

High pressure is here to stay now through late Friday, so fully sunny skies are in place.  This afternoon, expect highs to reach the low 40s Upstate, and upper 30s in the mountains.  Now wait a minute.  That's not above average!  Not yet it isn't...

Friday begins the bigger warming trend.  Mostly sunny skies continue, along with a light southwest wind.  This will help temperatures for all of us to reach into the low-to-mid-50s.  A gorgeous day overall, average temps Upstate, but above average in the mountains.  Friday night a few clouds pass through, and temperatures drop into the 20s and low 30s.

Saturday, everyone reaches into the middle-50s in advance of our next weather system.  We'll see a mix of sun and clouds, and a slight chance for a passing shower in the evening.  As the clouds increase, lows Saturday night remain in the 30s and 40s.

On Superbowl Sunday temperatures really ramp up.  Upstate, we'll be near 60° in the afternoon, with the 50s in the mountains.  We'll have mostly cloudy skies and scattered rain showers.  The weather in the Northeast for the game looks OK, mostly cloudy with temperatures dropping from the 40s during the day to the 30s during game time, no major weather issues anticipated.  February 2nd is also Groundhog's Day, so if Punxsutawney Phil doesn't see his shadow, we could be in for an early spring (so the legend states)!
