Snow begins in Aiken, officials say they're ready

AIKEN, SC (WFXG) -

Freezing rain and snow began in Aiken around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The City of Aiken has put together a severe weather update page with has phone numbers, news bulletins and closings in the city.

An emergency operations room is also set up at Aiken Public Safety headquarters. Officials said it wasn't active as of 8 p.m. Tuesday, but if it were to be used, officials in town, such as the city manager and city attorney, all have a spot set up to field calls from.

People out in Aiken Tuesday told Fox 54 they're prepared for anything.

"I did some shopping yesterday," Dale Couch said. "I filled up my truck with gas and checked all the fluids in it."

Others we talked to said they were going to try to avoid the roads Wednesday.
