MARTINEZ, GA (WFXG) -

Columbia County deputies are looking for a man and woman they say worked together to steal cigarettes from the CVS on Old Petersburg Road.

An employee at the store told deputies the woman distracted the person at the front counter around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 19, while the man stole a carton of cigarettes and individual boxes of cigarettes from behind the counter, according to a Columbia County Sheriff's Office incident report.

Another employee returned to the front of the store and saw the man standing next to the shopping carts, according to the report. She also noticed that the door leading to the area behind the registers was swinging, as if someone had just left the area.

When she asked the man what he was doing, he said he was waiting on his wife, according to the report. He then left the store.

Surveillance video shows the man go behind the counter and take the cigarettes, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies believe the man and woman left in a black SUV, possibly a Scion or Nissan Cube.

Anyone with information about the incident can call the Columbia County Sheriff's Office at 706-541-1042.
