Search continues for missing Waynesboro woman

WAYNESBORO, GA (WFXG) - The community joined law enforcement from across the region today, as the search for 77-year-old Alzheimer's patient Arletha Bennett continues into its eighth day.

"We haven't given up hope yet," said Lt. Teddy Jackson, with the Waynesboro Police Department. "We're anxious to find her, and try to get her back acquainted with her family."

Braving temperatures below freezing, the searchers were bundled up.

"We're very worried about the weather," said Jackson. "We are worried about it today, because it's cold out here now. We're hoping everybody dressed warm."

Bennett's brother, Hyland, came out to show his appreciation for the dozens who showed up despite the frigid weather.

"I want to thank the community very much for your participation in the search for my sister," said Hyland Bennett.

The family is offering a reward for any information leading to Bennett's safe return: something they say can't come soon enough.

If you have any information you think can help, call Waynesboro Police Dept. at (706) 554-8029.
