Charlotte ranks among most "Bible-Minded" cities

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Southern states are often called the "Bible Belt," and a new study shows that is true, with Charlotte making the list of the top ten "Bible-Minded cities."

The American Bible Study recently released its second annual study of the most and least Bible-minded cities. The study ranks the cities on the scale of one to 100, from most-to-least minded.

Chattanooga, Tenn. topped the list at number one, but Charlotte is the biggest city in the top ten - coming in at number six.

There are seven North Carolina and South Carolina areas on the list of the top 100 - all coming in the top 40 cities.

Overall, the South and Midwest top the list while many Northeast cities were amongst the least Bible-minded, according to the study. Providence, RI, and New Bedford, MA, came in at no. 100.

The study reports their numbers based off more than 46,000 phone and online interviews during a 7-year period.

The study defines a "Bible-minded" person as someone who read a Bible within the past seven days and "agrees strongly with the accuracy of the Bible."

According to their website, American Bible Society is a, "Christian ministry that has been engaging people with the life-changing message of God's Word for nearly 200 years."
