MONETTA, SC (WFXG) - Aiken County will open a new EMS facility in one of the four corners of the county.
Located in Monetta, Aiken County EMS Director Tommy Thompson said Station 10 will give them more reach to those who live in one of the furthest areas of the county.
"To best serve our citizens we tried to strategically place our centers, our stations, so that we can give the fastest responses," Thompson said.
The station has two bedrooms, a living room area and a full size kitchen. It even has a generator in the back - so it's self-sufficient.
"This is really a house," said Thompson. "It's a house for these people in there 24 hours at a time."
The county was able to fund the station with money generated from a previous one cent tax incentive. Aiken County was also able to add two more new EMS stations.
"In addition to this one we also have two brand new ones that will be opening, which will be 7 and number 3; in Windsor and coming back into the Silver Bluff area, out toward Beech Island," Thompson said.
Thompson also said they are looking for more EMTs throughout Aiken County but they will be able to handle the new locations.
