AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - One parent says she's been receiving backlash after trying to organize a meeting to discuss school consolidation.
Monique Braswell, a parent at Murphey Middle School, one of the schools that will be affected by a recent proposal to consolidate schools in Richmond County, has been organizing a meeting at the school for parents. The meeting was supposed to be held on Friday at the school, but she said she was told by a representative of the school board that she could not have an official meeting at the school.
"That meeting is for the parents to get together and try to come up with solutions to help our children," Braswell said. "This is just another blatant attempt for them to silent the voice for the parents not to know what's really on the table. "
The meeting to discuss consolidation will still be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24. It will be held at the public library downtown at 823 Telfair St.
