Richmond County deputies speak out about new scam

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is warning of a scam where a caller pretending to be a deputy asks for money.

The caller says they're Lt. Anthony Johnson and states the victim will be arrested for missing jury duty, but can avoid it by paying over the phone with a Green Dot Money Pak card.

The Sheriff's Office told Fox 54, there is no deputy by that name in the department. If you have any information, contact the sheriff's office at 706-821-1000 or Crime Stoppers at 803-441-8744.
