One of the women killed in the grocery store shooting in Elkhart late Wednesday night had connections to the Evansville area.
Indiana State Police says the victims of the shooting have been identified as 20-year-old Krystle Dikes, of Elkhart and 44-year-old Rachelle Godfread, who is believed to have connections to the Evansville area.
Joseph Godfread, a North High School graduate and Rachelle's son, posted this on his Facebook page Thursday afternoon:
ISP says just after 10:00 p.m. Wednesday, Elkhart Police received a 911 phone call of a gunman in the Martins Super Market located at 3900 East Bristol St. on the northeast side of the city.
The first two officers on the scene arrived within three minutes confronting the armed man, 22-year-old Shawn W. Bair, of Elkhart, shooting and killing him.
ISP says Bair was armed with a .40 caliber semi automatic handgun and a large hunting knife.
Officers on the scene soon discovered the two women that had been shot and killed by the armed Bair.
ISP says Krystle was an employee at the store and believe she was the first one to be shot.
Troopers believe Rachelle was shopping in the store at the time of the shooting.
Authorities say right now they are attempting to determine a motive for the shooting.
