1 dead, 1 critical after Gwinnett County multi-vehicle collision

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The Gwinnett County Police Department Accident Investigation Unit is investigating a fatal accident on Singleton Road at the intersection of Jimmy Carter Blvd.

The accident occurred just after 7:30 Thursday morning and it involved six vehicles.

Police said a man was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Singleton Road and crashed head-on into cars waiting at traffic light.

A woman died at the scene as a result of the injuries sustained from the collision.

The wrong-way driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition and another person was taken with minor injuries.

The name of the woman who died is being withheld pending notification of family. Police have also not released the name of the wrong-way driver.

All northbound lanes on Singleton at the intersection were closed. One southbound lane on Singleton was closed. All lanes are open on Jimmy Carter Blvd.
