DEARING, GA (WFXG) - One day after fatal shooting and a multi-county manhunt for the suspect, one small town is trying to put a tragedy behind them. Investigators said an Augusta man was shot and killed in Dearing on Saturday.

"I feel a little afraid. At the same time, it's bound to happen out here," the suspect's neighbors told WFXG.

The woman didn't want her identity known, but said drugs are popular in this small town. She isn't surprised that just yesterday a man was killed right down the road from her home.

"Oh its bad, its rampant. You can get anything you want out here. All you want. You wouldn't believe a town this small would have so many drugs in it. I just heard, the people involved might have something to do with drugs."

Saturday evening, McDuffie County Sheriff deputies and GBI investigators combed through the area for hours, searching for Matthew Cliett. They found him around 9 p.m. Saturday night.

"You sure don't know what people are capable of. You don't know what goes on in the mind of somebody else," one neighbor said.

Cliett is accused of shooting and killing an Augusta man on Saturday afternoon.

"He seemed like a nice guy. His family seems like a nice family."

Now that Cliett is behind bars, neighbors can't help but think of what he's left behind.

"Now what do you do? That's who raised those girls. Now he's going to prison and they're going to be without a father."

Cliett's family declined to comment on the incident. Cliett is expected in court this week. Stay with so WFXG for updates in the case.
