AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Georgia Regents Health System has proposed a new, state-of-the-art hospital facility for Columbia County.
The move comes after commissioners there put out an RFP to build a facility.
Officials say the plan includes a level-two trauma center.
Columbia County is currently the largest county in Georgia without a hospital.
"Certainly with adding the potential for up to 900 new positions, it's very significant from an economic standpoint," said Shawn Vincent, Vice President of Partnerships. "Currently, between GRU and GR Health Systems we already contribute about $200,000,000 in payroll for individuals who live within Columbia County. So this would all be in addition to that current contribution."
