Aiken woman announces lottery win on social media

AIKEN, SC (WFXG) - When Aiken resident Beth Wood's Facebook friends read her post saying she'd won the lottery, they wasted no time congratulating her and sharing their ideas for spending the $75,000.

"It's a new start," said Wood, excited about the possibilities she and her husband now have.

While her husband is still shaking his head over his wife's decision to announce the win on Facebook, he admits he saw the win coming.

The couple told lottery officials how over the course of a few weeks, Wood won $50 twice on Platinum Crossword tickets her husband gave her. She then bought one of the $3 tickets and won $30 and then picked out the $75,000 winner.

"Every one of those crossword tickets she touched was a winner," her husband said.

She says the lottery's crossword game is the only crossword puzzle she's ever been any good at.

"It was just my time," she said.

Odds of winning the remaining top prize of $75,000 in the $3 Platinum Crossword game are 1 in 432,000.

For selling the claimed winning ticket, Airport Shell in Aiken received a commission of $750.
