Wood sculptor brings pieces of Katrina to Augusta

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A wood sculptor brought pieces of Hurricane Katrina to Augusta Friday night.

Marlin Miller stopped downtown at ‘Gallery on the Row', signed books and left some of his work; giant wood sculptures made out of old oak trees, saved after the hurricane struck in 2005.

Miller said many trees on the Mississippi coast were going to be bulldozed, but says he knew the 500 to 600 year old trees meant so much to people who had already lost so much.

So he took the trees and rebuilt them, into giant sculpture trail. He spent three years on the project and said it is now 35 miles long. It contains over 50 of the giant sculptures. Miller said the chain saw cuts he uses to make the art can take between four and five hours.
