Men's basketball player named USC Aiken Athlete of the Month

AIKEN, SC (WFXG) -

University of South Carolina Aiken senior men's basketball player Ronald Zimmerman has been named the USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month for his efforts in the month of December.

Zimmerman, a native of Columbia, S.C., averaged 21.6 points through five games – all of which were victories – for the Pacers.

A 6-0 guard, Zimmerman started in each of the games for head coach Vince Alexander's team. He leads the team with 17.8 points per game and is draining 41.3 percent of his three-point attempts. For the month, he averaged 5.2 made three-point field goals per game. Zimmerman made 49.1 percent of his three-point attempts and 78.3 percent of his fouls shots for the month.

For the season, Zimmerman has reached double figures in 10 of the 12 games on the season – while scoring nine in the other two contests. He currently leads the PBC in points scored and made three-point field goals per game and recently passed the 1,000-point plateau for his career.

The USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month award honors one student-athlete each month from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort. Each month during the 2013-14 athletic year one winner will be chosen from an in-season sport.
