Augusta Sports Council offers coupon for GRU Half Marathon registration

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

The Augusta Sports Council is encouraging participation in the GRU Augusta Half Marathon and 10K by offering a $10 off coupon for the half marathon registration.

The race, presented by American Family Insurance, will start at 8 a.m. on Feb. 23. Registration for the half marathon is $60. The coupon code is ASCNEWYEAR. The code is valid through Jan. 31. Registration for the 10K is $40.

The GRU Augusta Half Marathon and 10K is in its sixth year of existence, with the 10K component and wheelchair division added last year. A new start/finish line at Lake Olmstead Stadium was announced in August, and the race will follow a similar route as years past.

Training groups for the race are being held by Fleet Feet Augusta and the Augusta Striders.

A health and fitness expo on Feb. 22 will be featured at the Julian Smith Casino where athlete check-in and packet pick-up will take place. Race registration will be available at the expo, but there will be no race-day registration. Various vendors, sports groups and race organizations will be present.

The Medals for Miles program, presented by the Family Y, inspires children of all ages to complete a total of 12 miles on their own. At 4 p.m. on Feb. 22, they are encouraged to come run their last 1.1 miles on the race course to earn their own medal at the actual finish line.

Athletes can register for the half marathon, 10k, Medals for Miles, sign up to volunteer and learn more information at www.augustahalf.org. View the half marathon and 10K course maps here.
